Bone grafting and sinus lifts are advanced procedures that make implant dentistry possible for patients lacking sufficient bone support or those concerned about sinus membrane obstructing implant placement.

When Do We Recommend Bone Grafting?

Bone loss can occur due to trauma, periodontal (gum) disease, denture wear, and other conditions. If you lack sufficient bone structure to support an implant, a bone grafting procedure can rebuild your bone to enhance implant success.

During a surgical procedure, Dr. Poff adds synthetic or natural bone material to your jawbone. We allow that material to heal and integrate with your jawbone over time. Once fully healed, it can successfully support a dental implant to replace one or multiple teeth.  

Also called a sinus augmentation, we recommend a sinus lift when your sinus membrane is too close to your upper jaw and space is needed to comfortably place a dental implant without penetrating the membrane.

During a sinus augmentation procedure, Dr. Poff adds bone material to your upper jaw, which "lifts" the sinus membrane and creates space to comfortably place a dental implant after your jawbone heals.

Both bone grafting and sinus lifts are designed to ensure the successful future placement of dental implants. These procedures help to make implant dentistry a possibility for most patients.
